The Guardian - The Comic

Sunday, January 6th, 2008

So far as I can tell its only the past few months that The Guardian has been doing this endearing little spread at the heart of its Family section (Saturdays)… I found some mixed opinions elsewhere but they all seem to share my curious fascination with the way its put together. Its rather like a Berliner scaled mini-comic with the central portion full of puzzles and similar. ^_^

You can download all the issues so far on The Guardian unlimited:

I don’t care about the negative take on the actual comic, I quite enjoyed the insert and it has given me a few ideas to get on with. :D

City of Heroes - Blaster Gameplay Video

Recently returned to City of Heroes, this is a fairly nice video (Not of my character) in my quest to bore certain friends to death and convert them into willing allies of my heroic endeavours…

Hancock Teaser Trailer

I’m not his biggest fan but this looks like it could be vaguely amusing (considering I’m a fan of the series Heroes). I mostly like the Whale bit :)

DreamHost $7,500,000 richer? I don’t think so!

Wednesday, January 16th, 2008

Imagine getting this hosting bill…

Today’s date: 2008-12-29
Balance: $478.80 (including any charges not due until 2009-01-12)
Due: $478.80 (money owed since 2008-12-12)
Past due: $438.90 (money owed since 2008-11-12)
Delinquent: $399.00 (money owed since 2008-10-12)

’twas a bit of a blunder really and DH are suffering for it in some quarters, others are more understanding and beyond that its the sort of mistake that makes a good company look really bad to perspective customers.

DH status

I’m still here and I won’t be jumping ship to somewhere like Media Temple any time soon, DreamHost has a bit of character to it and meets my needs… that is all I ever asked for.

Currently Reading #4

Wednesday, January 16th, 2008

You may remember Idoru from Currently Reading #1, this is one from the treasured dominion of William Gibson and supposedly it contains a literary equivalent of my very own persona… This intrigues and concerns my precarious soul!

I am starting it shortly and I’ll be sure to give it a few more words in the next reading entry.

I didn’t get a chance to make an entry but I very rapidly tore my way through Fatherland (by Robert Harris)which was thrust into my hungry clutches by a friend (who happens to live right above me)at a time when I was hungry for another reader… It has that alternate history come dystopia feel that strikes a winning tune for me and it delivers quite a smooth ride, with a fairly satisfying conclusion that leaves you hanging over the edge.

UM sketchcasting

Friday, January 18th, 2008

I’m likely to make the good, bad and ugly sketches a regular feature. I’m pondering how to title those entries at the moment.

I would have liked to bring sketches with audio but the service seems a little unreliable and I lost my efforts three times… It was like a doodlers equivalent of Russian Roulette.

sketchcast 01 - The Axis of Squeee!

Friday, January 18th, 2008

I proudly and shamefully present, Urban Muggles Sketchcast one… PLEASE, please, please, please provide feedback so that I can judge how much effort to put into these things… okay after I’ve caught up on my updates obviously :s The recording is poor… mostly because my soul died from trying to record it the first thousand times.

-I’ve removed it from this entry but it can still be view on my channel-

You can find my doodles on my sketchcast channel: sketchcast.com/channel/Tompl/

(It keeps slowing down for me… I’m going to redo it)

edit: Until they improve it I think I’m going to give Sketchfu a try :(

On Natars, Episodic Gaming and Polymer figurines…

This posting is going to be a case of my chucking things I want to share at a wall and letting them stick there, no brilliant dialogue… just a stream of geek conscious…

Fake unit Fake Unit Sketches

Being one of the meanest members of the Travian UK server team I seized the opportunity presented by some unused unit graphics (that players had discovered) on the server and fabricated hype surrounding a non-existent Demon/Undead race.
I didn’t spend much time on it, that would cheapen the fun but here is some of the ‘leaked’ material: http://amadirius.tumblr.com/
