Mini-Comic Intent

Monday, November 5th, 2007

Every month or two I want to make a mini-comic available, I am currently trying to work out the best method of distributing these to the people that want them… mostly it will involve trying to cover the postage and keep track of it all. If you have any ideas I will gladly listen.

Each mini-comic will be something slightly different and there will be an entry here relating to each one as it is released, the comments can be used for feedback on the mini-comic and I encourage these because I would like to know what you make of the different approaches.

Jingo
At a time when fans have had some bad news about the author of the highly amusing Discworld novels I’m reading another novel with the city watch at the heart and still love the character of Vimes to bits. I’m close to finishing it so I can’t wait to borrow Idoru (William Gibson) which I am told contains a character that is very close match to my own personality/style… or some such.

Saving myself a bit of time for those who want to know more, I prefer to verbally discuss books to writing anything vaguely review like…
Jingo (Discworld Novel)

I’ll link to Idoru too, soon as I find out what character I am supposedly like and have given it a read through I may make it the subject of a rant:

We didn’t really have much time to get sorted but we made a small show at a local craft fair anyway, I was only responsible for some very rushed Christmas cards. Nicola made some very lovely Scottie Dogs that were popular with the kids, if you like the look of them I should mention that we have a limited number floating about the flat and when I have a chance I will photograph each individual Scottie Dog that remains, give them a name and create a small certificate to go alongside… I’ll save that for another entry.

A short update for the imaginary readership.

The Twitter entries are annoying if rant posts and strips aren’t dispersed daily so I’ve gotten rid of them, they still appear in the sidebar and on twitter itself. I’m also having to enable/disable the twitter notification of a new entry here because it tends to re-post everytime I edit a previous entry… which is just frustrating. It is however a very good plugin, just has some niggles :)

There will be strip uploads coming, I’m just not in the best place to work on them right now and I’m sort of engrossed in Jade Empire which I’ve finally got round to purchasing (for the PC [Special Ed. Copy]). Its quite heavy on the storytelling and dialogue, initially to the detriment of enjoyment because it broke the actual game play up so much but eventually something I came to quit enjoy. The moral choices come thick and fast and by the time I had infiltrated the Lotus I was feeling thoroughly corrupted despite having done much good (and the occasional ‘evil’ deed). I feel guilty about at least two well-mannered NPCs that died because of my moral failings… :/ I wished I had been stronger. One of them didn’t even further my larger aims… :s

Christmas has been fun so far, I’ve got more pairs of socks than I shall ever need in this lifetime…

Magician
Its something of a classic, I’m actually reading it again… by again I mean for the fifth time. What? Don’t judge me!
I’ve worked my way backwards through Feist in certain respects, it was mainly Talon of the Silverhawk that drew me into the series and even then as the result of hooking another friend. The Conclave of Shadows trilogy and its following work are easily my personal favourites after the core novels surrounding Magician.

Worthy of note in this entry is Gifts by Ursula Le Guin, which is followed by Voices and Powers (Which I am assured are also promising reading). I was moved to tears at one section of Gifts and found it to be deceptively twisting in its direction, something that might not sound like a positive but which is part of its overall genius. I like literature that does not dish up a perfectly happy ending.

If your interest is prickled then head for a search engine near you, I’ll get round to adding links at some point however :)

Updated:
Gifts (Its a bargain at £4… I actually got mine in PERFECT condition from a second hand bookshop for thirty pence… I was thrilled!)

Magician (Riftwar Saga) (You probably own this one already)

A perfectly amicable New Year approaches…

I’m going to have to go on a blitz of updates when I get back to the flat to make up for the festive silence, I’ve been able to post and rant but not to work on strips or anything graphical for the duration of the holiday. It actually annoys me to lose updates because it grinds the site to a halt and without some forward momentum it won’t survive.

Could really do with someone else working on Urban Muggles but nobody wants to help out, its taking shape regardless of assistance.

There is a very slim chance that I may find a way to update sooner but it will be a blend of ‘not-quite-perfect’ photography, different papers and sketchy artwork… *shrug* I’ll have to make a UM related resolution methinks.

Pugs are ugly, give me a Scottie Dog any day… (Having said that, the ugly pug in question is a nice pug… just ugly, very ugly.)
