Jingo
At a time when fans have had some bad news about the author of the highly amusing Discworld novels I’m reading another novel with the city watch at the heart and still love the character of Vimes to bits. I’m close to finishing it so I can’t wait to borrow Idoru (William Gibson) which I am told contains a character that is very close match to my own personality/style… or some such.

Saving myself a bit of time for those who want to know more, I prefer to verbally discuss books to writing anything vaguely review like…
Jingo (Discworld Novel)

I’ll link to Idoru too, soon as I find out what character I am supposedly like and have given it a read through I may make it the subject of a rant:

You may remember Idoru from Currently Reading #1, this is one from the treasured dominion of William Gibson and supposedly it contains a literary equivalent of my very own persona… This intrigues and concerns my precarious soul!

I am starting it shortly and I’ll be sure to give it a few more words in the next reading entry.

I didn’t get a chance to make an entry but I very rapidly tore my way through Fatherland (by Robert Harris)which was thrust into my hungry clutches by a friend (who happens to live right above me)at a time when I was hungry for another reader… It has that alternate history come dystopia feel that strikes a winning tune for me and it delivers quite a smooth ride, with a fairly satisfying conclusion that leaves you hanging over the edge.

Idoru

Idoru was quite frankly brilliant, cementing Gibson as a sneaky favourite of mine… another author I somehow missed on my entertainment fuelled shuttle through literature. I’m still not sure which character I’m supposed to be like, Laney? The Otaku? Rez?! I can’t see it myself…

Little has changed since CR#6 as I have had very little time to enjoy Pattern Recognition which I am close to finishing off at last… I am mostly eager to begin devouring a work that I have been needing to read for some time, mostly ever since a tutor referred to me as the Scarlet Pimpernel.

In some respects Pattern Recognition is becoming a firm favourite for me in regards to William Gibson, it just feels very at home in the current social climate.

I’ve recently managed to watch the Earthsea attempt that the Sci-Fi channel made and despite my alarm at the trailer it wasn’t quite as BAD as I thought it would be, I read the Earthsea Quartet at such a young age that I was hazy on enough of the plot to not be irritated by anything I saw before me…

However I know really want to read all four again and I haven’t got my own copy. *sigh* :(
